Hermann Karel Friedrich Gleichmann

Born in Coburg, Germany. In 1914 recruited as marine artillerist in Tsingtau. 1922: employed with the Nederlandse Stoomvaart Maatschappij. From 1935 to 1940: planter in Bodjon (Bojonegoro?), near Semarang. Interned in May 1940 for deportation to India on 18 January 1942. He survives the sinking of the Van Imhoff on 19 January.
The life boat he is in reaches Nias on 22 January and is smashed to pieces on the coral reef by breaker waves. Hermann is handicapped and can not save himself. He sadly dies at a short distance from safety.
