Born in Frankfurt-am-Main. Jewish background. He became a merchant and planter in Sumatra. He married Annie Westenberg. Their son Rolf was born on 12 June 1921.
Hans was arrested together with his son Rolf. Both drowned on the Van Imhoff.

Wallstein Verlag, Goettingen, 2011. This is one of the few sources where the Van Imhoff was supposedly sunk by a Japanese submarine rather than a bomb dropped from an airplane.
