Born on 2 January 1898 in Muehlhausen.Jewish background. He married Elfrieda Clara Ballin with whom he had two children: daughter Hanna-Lore Stern and son Hans Siegfried Stern.
Hermann Stern and his family as well as his younger brother Erich Stern migrated from Genthin, Germany to the Dutch East Indies in 1933. They had a delicatessen business in Bandung managed by the whole family.
Hermann was arrested together with his younger brother Erich in 1941. They both drowned at sea during their deportation with the ss Van Imhoff.
