Ship engineer on ss Soneck. In some documents mistakenly named ss Gonneck
In his book "Batavia seint Berlijn" (page 283), Van Heekeren quotes a letter by survivor Johannes Grasshoff, who informs that he explored the landing area on Nias together with a man called Jark.
0n 28 November 2020, maritime researcher J Rozenburg mailed:
"There are no data on a German ship that was seized in Netherlands East Indies with the name of GONNECK.
I believe the name is misspelled and should be SONECK. This ship from the HANSA A.G. was interned in may 1940 in Padang (Sumatra)."
